Trailer Jack

A trailer jack is an essential piece of equipment that you use for lifting and lowering the tongue on your trailer. It s basic function is that it allows you to hitch or unhitch your trailer from your tow truck or vehicle.  Using this device makes also it much easier to position the tongue for towing the trailer or for conveniently parking it.

There are three main types of the trailer jack available.  The first one is the manual type.  These jacks are typically used on small utility trailers, boat trailers, bumper pull horse trailers and other light weight trailers. The rationale behind is the larger the trailer the more harder it is to manually pull it up ergo the manual type has little value for larger trailer types. The manual jack are usually in the shape of an A-frame jack, which is usually attached to the A-frame of the trailer hitch.  The device has a handle above that can spin and could lift or lower the trailer when needed.

The next type is the electric trailer jack.  These are very similar to the manual types as much as they also are attached to the A-frame of the corresponding trailer.  The main advantage of the electric trailer jack is the fact the it has a button you could push for easy lifting and lowering of the trailer as opposed to the manual type where you need to exert a lot of energy just to crank the trailer to which direction you like. The good thing about this one is it also makes it very convenient to disconnect or hook up your trailer.  Electric trailer jacks utilize a motor that needs very little maintenance to operate.  They are very versatile in the sense that they can lift weight that ranges from a mere 2,500 pounds to as high as 10,000 pounds.  These are very handy indeed.

The last type of trailer jack is the hydraulic type.  This is an upgrade from the previous two types as not only it requires no more cranking, it also packs in a lot more power than the electric type and is capable of lifting large, heavy trailers with ease. A lot of models have weather proof control panels that are very handy in inclement weather conditions.  They typically use a solid tube in tube feature and of course a hydraulic system.  They are very handy to use in multiple horse trailers as well as car trailers that require more weight to be lifted.
